I’m curious about how people approach teaching practical skills that aren’t necessarily part of a formal technical course. For example, when someone is learning basic facility or property-maintenance skills, do you think it’s more useful to learn through demonstrations, written instructions, or hands-on practice?
I recently came across a small kitchen renovation project where the finishing details were more complicated than expected. Something as simple as installing Kitchen Cabinet Molding & Trim involved measuring accurately, making clean cuts, dealing with uneven walls, and making sure the finished pieces lined up properly.
It made me wonder whether practical projects like this could be useful for competency-based training. They seem like a good way to evaluate attention to detail, following procedures, tool handling, and problem-solving.
For those involved in training or skills development, what methods have you found most effective for teaching and assessing hands-on tasks?
