I recently reviewed a translated chapter and noticed that every sentence was accurate, yet the characters somehow sounded unnatural. How do authors decide when a book translation service should stay close to the original wording and when it should change the phrasing? What signs show that cultural meaning or character personality is being lost? I’d appreciate serious, honest suggestions from writers who have dealt with this issue.
